Around the House: Silver Spots!

Silver Spots! These butterflies are everywhere this week. In particular they are called the Silver Spotted Skipper (Epargyreus clarus).

They are common throughout the Eastern United States. You will find them often hanging upside down on flowers.

Notice how the antennae of this butterfly are pointed down instead of standing straight up? That is a trait found in the in skippers (The Hesperiidae Family of butterflies).

I love seeing them flitting around. They are abundant here - have you seen any where you are?

  1. Lovely. I have seen skippers in Florida and Casta Rica, but not here where I live in New Zealand.
